Syria Successful In Fighting Terrorism: Deputy FM

Tehran, Aug 7, IRNA – The deputy foreign minister said that currently Syria has concentrated on fighting terrorism and upholding unity, security and integral territory and it moves ahead in this respect powerfully and successfully. Talking to IRNA Tuesday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahiyan added that Syrian approach is diplomatic and based on national dialogue between the government and Syrian dissidents. Supporting terrorism and irresponsible armed groups will not only serve the Zionist regimes interests but also will prevent materialization of the goals pursued by talks held in Geneva. Syrian army mopped a strategic section of Homs of foreign terrorists during operations in recent days. Turmoil has gripped Syria since March 2011, and tens of thousands of people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed in the unrest. The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of militants are foreign nationals. Damascus accuses western countries and some of their regional allies including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey of arming the opposition and fueling the crisis in the country, as reports indicate that a large number of insurgents fighting the Syrian government are foreign nationals./end
