Iran Bags 1st Gold Medal In Inaugural Of Delhi Wrestling Grand Prix

New Delhi, May 26, IRNA – Iran bagged the first gold medal in its kitty in the inaugural competition at First Hari Ram Indian Grand Prix Wrestling Tournament 2012, kicked off Friday in New Delhi.
Mostafa Hasan Khani clinched the gold medal in the 74 kgs category by defeating India’s Olympic bound wrestler Narsingh Yadav, at theIndira Gandhi stadium.
Khani showed better skills and defeated grappler Yadav, the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, in a closely fought final bout.
Led by Reza Layeq, chief wrestling coach, seven-member Iranian team is participating in the tournament.
Danial Hojjati in 55 kgs, Hasan Morad Koli in 60 kgs, Meesam Nasiri in 66 kgs, Mostafa Hasan Khani in 74 kgs, Nader Hamidipour in 84 kgs, Abbas Taheri in 96 kgs and Asghar Laghiri in 120 kgs category, are in fray for medals and are fully prepared to dominate the championship.
Top wrestlers from 22 countries, including Islamic Republic of Iran, will showcase their skills in seven weight categories, in the three-day (25th to 27th May-2012) championship.
The tournament involves a total prize purse of USD 98,000 with the gold medalist getting USD 3,000.
The silver medalist will bag USD 2,000, while the winner of bronze medal will fetch USD 1,000./end
