Iran Freestyle Wrestling Team Retains Position Of Champion At World Cup In LA
Tehran, March 18, IRNA – Iran’s National Free-Style Wrestling Team retain position of champion at World Cup in Los Angeles. Iran crowned champion of free-style wrestling two years ago.
Iran got the title of champion of the World Cup by beating Russian National Team 6-2 for the 2014 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup.
The Iranian national free-style wrestling team defeated the US national team 5-3 in a tough and hard competition.
The title of the world champion for Iran is important for three reasons: First, Iran’s National Free-Style Team managed to win the title for three consecutive times. Second, the title was restored in a competition with top 10 teams of 2013. Third, before leading its way to the finals, Iranian team was successful to beat the National Wrestling Team of the US, the host, 5-3.
The victory in Los Angeles and in presence of thousands of Iranians at the stadium and defeating the host team brought happiness to Iranian expatriates living in the United States.
Nearly 5,000 fans on behalf of Iranians worldwide witnessed hoisting of Iran’s glorious flag and the first stand was secured by Iranian champions.
The spectators in chorus chanted national anthem, thus depicting a beautiful and memorable scene.
The championship was so much pleasing for Iranians that entailed appreciation of highest Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, once again recalling the victories of brave Iranian people against the US.
Iran’s victory featured three stages: The champions overpowered the US national team 5-3 in an in-camp competitions and then a 6-2 win over Russia in the finals.
The Monday morning was a distinctive and dignified day for Iranians in the US, especially the close to 5,000 Iranian fans attending the contest. Iranians, irrespective of their political affiliations, embraced their loved ones-- the champions—and joined the athletes to outcry that Iran is the land of heroes and brave men and Iranian people will spare no efforts to reach heights of pride and honor in any field, including the championship of the wrestling.
Today, Iranians residing in the US will have a newspaper in hand, which depicts image of Iranian victorious champions in the 2014 World Cup, earning pride for the Iranian expatriates living in the US.
Joining all Iranians abroad, Iranian people press warmly the hands of their brave free-style wrestlers, wishing them happy Nowrouz and a nice spring due to their gaining an unforgettable honor at the heart of the US.
Iran’s National Free-Style Wrestling Team won the championship title of the world cup in 2012 and 2013.
