German Police Detain Man After Opening Fire On Turkish Shop

Berlin, Nov 16, IRNA -- Police detained a man wearing a Nazi swastika on his arm and a bomb belt, after opening fire on a Turkish-owned grocery store in the town of Rheda-Wiedenbrueck in northwestern Germany early Tuesday, according to press reports.
The unidentified 27-year-old suspect who had explosives strapped to his body and wore a backpack containing a Nazi helmet, fired several shots at the Turkish shop at 2 a.m. (0100 GMT).
Police said the suspect who appeared to be mentally disturbed, had hoped he would be killed.
The shooting incident could be reportedly inspired by the serial killings of nine migrants over the past 10 years which were connected on Friday to a neo-Nazi terror group.
Police said there was no record of the suspect ever belonging to a neo-Nazi group, but he had been in long-term psychiatric treatment./end
