Salehi: Sanctions Cannot Affect Iran’s Progress

Geneva, Feb 28, IRNA - Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Monday sanction can not affect Iran’s progress and development. Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with his Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter on the sidelines of the 19th United Nations Human Rights Meeting in Geneva. Pointing to Iranian potentials and capabilities, Salehi said Iran’a geopolitical position in the region made it resistant to the sanctions targeting its economic progress. He described Iran-Swiss relations in different political, economic and cultural fields as important and said that unilateral sanctions on Iran imposed by certain governments are against international laws and independence and impartiality of those countries. Analyzing what are happening in the region, Salehi said that the regional nations have stood up to seek their demands while their governments are not fulfilling them. Burkhalter underlined the importance of the two countries mutual relations especially in the fields of culture, and called for regular meetings to be held by the two countries diplomats. He expressed hope the upcoming talks between Iran and Group 5+1 over Iran’s nuclear program would be successful./end
