OIC secretary general pessimistic about the crisis in Syria

JEDDAH (A.A) - February 28, 2012 - Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is pessimistic about the ongoing incidents in Syria. Ihsanoglu, who attended a United Nations meeting in Geneva, said that unfortunately he did not see a sign of consensus regarding the crisis in Syria. Ihsanoglu told reporters that clashes in Syria could continue a longer time, and he called on Al-Assad regime to end this violence. Incidents in Syria, death of people and bombing on cities cause a great grief in Islamic world, said Ihsanoglu, adding that he, unfortunately, could not see a sign indicating a consensus in the country. International conditions show that this crisis will continue a while, he added. Ihsanoglu called on Bashar al-Assad administration to establish dialogue with opposition and speed up reform activities to end bloodshed.
