Pakistan FPCCI Calls For Enhanced Trade With Iran

Islamabad, May 26, IRNA -- The Vice-President of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) called for the promotion of trade ties with Iran saying that a boost in such ties between both sides can usher an economic revolution in the region.
Zubair Ali made the comment while addressing a luncheon hosted by Iran's Consular General Hassan Darwishwand for industries and traders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Peshawar. The official added that both Pakistan and Iran are not only good neighbors but are also strongly bound by religion.
Zubair Ali also stressed for strengthening interaction between the trade federations of both countries, saying that since both sides possess rich natural resources, the only need is their better utilization to change the destiny of the people of both countries.
Highlighting the importance of exchange of trade delegations between Pakistan-Iran, Zubair Ali noted that beside the public sector, the private sector should also come forward for promotion of trade. He said that the time for lip services is over and now it is time for taking practical measures.
Zubair Ali said that a 25-member trade delegation from Pakistan is keen to visit Iran on their own expense and the FPCCI, likewise, has also invited Iranian traders to Pakistan.
The Consular-General of Iran, Hassan Darwihwand, for his part, said that the prevailing negative impression regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the world is unrealistic, calling that it be dispelled. He said that although Iran and Pakistan are good friends, both sides have yet to utilize each others resources.
Darwihwand said that the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran are merely propaganda, noting that unofficial trade between Iran and the United States is bigger than trade with Pakistan. He appreciated the efforts of the present leadership of FPCCI for the promotion of trade./end
