Paris, July 14, IRNA - Iran’s new Ambassador to Belgium Mahmoud Barimani submitted his credentials to Belgium's King Albert II in Brussels on Saturday.
During the meeting, the two reviewed further expansion of Iran-Belgium all-out relations.
Barimani, in separate meetings, also submitted copies of his credentials to the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
In his meeting with Rompuy, the Iranian envoy stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a crucial role in the region.
On Iran-5+1 talks, he expressed hope that the upcoming negotiations would bear fruit.
Barimani also hoped that Iran-EU relations would resume its normal process, adding that imposing sanctions on Iran will not prevent the country from pursuing its nuclear rights based on Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Reaffirming Iran's commitment to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) rules, he said building confidence is a two-way path.
Rompuy, for his part, lauded Iran's key role in the region and underscored the importance of confidence-building approaches regarding Iran's nuclear program./end
