FM: Iran's NAM Presidency, Good Chance For Playing More Active Role In Int'l Arena

Tabriz, Sept 11, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi announced here Monday evening that Iran presidency over the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for the next three years is a great opportunity for playing more active roles at international and foreign policy arenas. Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Tabriz Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestari, adding NAM is considered as the biggest international organization after the United Nations. Salehi briefed the cleric on the achievements and outcome of the recent NAM meeting in Tehran. Although the enemies were attempting to isolate the Islamic Republic from the diplomatic point of view, the successful holding of the NAM meeting indicated that the West itself was isolated, he said. Salehi noted that expansion of ties with all world countries except the Zionist regime is a top priority of Iran's foreign policy, adding that the Islamic Republic system was established on the basis of peace and friendship./end
