Iran To Participate In New Delhi Int’l Seminar On Energy Access

New Delhi, Oct 6, IRNA – Iran’s Energy Minister, Majid Namjoo will represent the country at ministerial level "International Seminar on Energy Access" on October 9-10 2012 in New Delhi. Beside Iran, the two-day seminar, organized by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is expected to have the participation of more than 50 ministers and senior government functionaries representing different countries, UN bodies, organisations, international players and NGOs. The seminar, envisaged as an international platform for government, private sector, and non-governmental leaders to jointly address the goal of achieving energy access. The international seminar is in support of the key declaration of the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) 2010 and the fourth Global Ministerial Level Conference on Renewable Energy held in New Delhi in 2010. A key outcome of the DIREC 2010 was the "DIREC Declaration" a key feature of which is a call to the UN to designate 2012 as the International Year of Energy Access. In recognition of the importance of energy access for sustainable economic development and supporting achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, the United Nations General Assembly has designated 2012 as the "International Year of Sustainable Energy for All". /end
