US, Zionists Trying To Weaken Syria In All Aspects : Iran Envoy

Damascus, Oct 10, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Reza Ra'oof Sheibani said Wednesday that Washington and Tel Aviv are to weaken Syria in all economic, political and military aspects and are determined to turn the country into a pro-Zionist state which would pursue US policies in the region. Speaking to IRNA, Sheibani said that the present situation in Syria is like a coup d'etat against the government backed by the West and the Zionist regime. "What is presently happening in Syria is, in deed, West's vengeance against the resistance axis," said the ambassador. "Syria has been targeted by the bullying system and its regional agents since Damascus is a major part of the resistance axis," he added. The ambassador also criticized performance of certain US allies in the region, including the Saudi Arabia, Qatar and turkey, saying their policies have not only been of no help to settle the Syrian crisis, but they have also led to further instability, tribal conflicts and religious discord among regional states. Sheibani said restoration of peace and stability to Syria is presently a primary need of the country. As for Tehran's role in resolving the Syrian crisi, Sheibani said from the very first days of the crisis, Tehran has voiced its opposition to any form of foreign interference and has supported public demands for reforms. Iran has also expressed readiness to help make comprehensive changes in that country, said the diplomat. "Tehran believes that the way out of the Syrian crisis is to find a diplomatic solution with presence of all active political parties in that country," he stressed./end
