Unilateral sanctions against Iran detrimental to EU members: Iranian FM spokesman

TEHRAN,Oct.28(MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the European Union, by imposing unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, is moving in the wrong direction because the sanctions will finally prove detrimental to EU countries. Mehmanparast said that the EU polices toward Tehran are “unreasonable”, “unfair”, and finally will act against the interests of EU countries. Mehmanparast described problems facing the EU as serious and said that social and economic crises in Europe have their roots in the strategies adopted by the union, which are in line with the United States’ policies. Commenting on unemployment crisis, economic slowdown, and social discontent in Europe, Mehmanparast said in such a situation the EU should utilize its potential to promote ties with other states. He added Asian countries are emerging as economic powers in the world and the Islamic Republic as a regional power has a great potential to cooperate with other countries including European members. Iran is located in a geographically strategic region and has a great potential to connect various countries, and if the EU deprives itself of this potential it means that it is undermining the interests of its members for the sake of the U.S.
