Attack On Check Post Kills 8 Pakistani Security Men

Islamabad, July 27, IRNA – Insurgents fired rockets on a check post of Pakistani security forces in the restive Balochistan province and killed at least eight security personnel, officials said. Several security men were also injured in the attack. Rescue teams have been sent to the remote area to move the dead and injured to Gwadar. Officials said that the insurgents first fired rockets on the check post and then used automatic weapons to target the security men. They said a total of 14 security personnel were deployed at the check post. No group claimed responsibility for the early morning attack in the area near the Iranian border. Insurgents fighting Pakistani forces are blamed for the attacks. In a separate incident, suspected militants attacked a security forces check post in the country’s northwest, injuring at least four, while the security forces launched a counter attack and killed five militants, officials said. Heavily armed militants launched attack on a security check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the wee hours of Saturday. Both sides used heavy weapons during the clash which lasted for more than four hours. The attackers escaped from the scene taking with them the dead bodies of militants. Meanwhile, militants also attacked a joint check post of security forces and police in Peshawar Friday night. A civilian was killed and four others sustained injuries when a mortar shell hit a house during the encounter./end
