Islamic World Has 150 Million Academics Potential
Jakarta, Jan 6 (Antara) - The percentage of academics in the Islamic world is reaching 10 percent or about 150 million, a research professor of spatial information systems at Geospatial Information Agency (BIG)m Fahmi Amhar states here on Sunday.
The number has reached 1.5 billion people and is spread across 50 countries. "Meanwhile in Indonesia, academics are estimated reach to 13.28 percent of the total population or about 32 million people," Fahmi Amhar noted.
He stated that the potential of intellectual resources in the Islamic world increasingly ascend along with the emergence of several ideas that are associated with the development of Islamic civilization.
"They have proposed several solutions on topics such as global politics and its impact on the Islamic world that include geopolitics, international relations, interdependency among countries as well as military and security issues," Fahmi explained.
Besides, the Islamic scientists in the world are also discussing economy, health and food security, energy and natural resources, women`s and family issues as well as education and science and technology, he added.
However, according to him the ideas from scientists are still partial and therefore the topics discussed are mainly theories and concepts that are not able to solve the real problem.
"Education, which is focused only on a narrow field of study, actually loses context or the frame of thinking that surrounds these issues," Fahmi pointed out.
He stated that the problems in the Islamic world such as slumped economy, moral degradation of society, education as well as science and technology that are left behind, have been discussed and pursued through trade settlement, Islamic schools and scholarships to international universities.
" But then, we have not seen the tip of the tangled threads of these issues yet," Fahmi added.
According to him secularism and liberalism have been obstacles to the world Muslim intellectuals in formulating a comprehensive and complete solution to the problems of the community.
Secularism gives rise to arrogance and people begin to consider themselves greater than the one who has created the universe; that separates Islam from public life and affairs. Meanwhile liberalism has distanced humans from Islamic rules that cover all aspects of life.
Muslim intellectuals must integrate and synergize the Islamic system and law in every scientific way to solve global life problems, Fahmi added.
