Banned Group “Lashakr-e-Jhangvi” Threatens Pakistani Political Leader

Islamabad, March 29, IRNA – Chief of Pakistan’s main opposition party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has said that he has received threats from the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) group. LeJ has been blamed for many attacks in Pakistan particularly Shiite Muslims. Bilawal Bhutto, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, tweeted that he had received threats and demanded action against the group. The outlawed outfit is also accused of targeting minorities and some political leaders. It is believed that the group has close links with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. Bilawal demanded the Punjab government to take action against the LeJ as he said members of the group are mostly line in the province. The group also reportedly sent threatening letters to the Sindh government, warning them to stop “atrocities” otherwise they would resort to targeting law enforcing agents and government officials. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of reported threats to Bilawal by the LeJ, officials said. Shahbaz directed the Punjab police chief to look into the matter immediately. Officials said the police chief also contacted Bilawal and assured him security./end
