Iran asks for Europeˈs help in fighting drug trafficking, terrorism
Tehran, April 28, IRNA - Head of the Iranian Judiciaryˈs Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani asked European states to help the country with its fight against drug trafficking and terrorism.
He made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastain Kurz, here in Tehran.
Increase of cooperation between Iran and European countries in the fight against drug trafficking and terrorism can help reduce the number of executions, Larijani noted.
Pointing to Iranˈs neighbors including Afghanistan as one of the major opium producers in the world, he noted that Iran’s soil is used as a transit rout for drug traffickers.
Most of people executed in Iran are drug traffickers and Tehran has done its best to reduce the number of executions by seeking the pardon of victim’s family, the senior official added.
He noted that European countries should give up their double standard policy towards terrorism and cut their support for anti Iranian terrorist groups including PJAK and MKO.
The Austrian foreign minster, for his part, welcomed expansion of ties with Iran in all fields including the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.
The Austrian foreign minister arrived in Tehran Saturday evening on a two-day official visit.
