Thailand ready to host int'l conference on disaster risk reduction in June

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Thailand is ready to host the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 2014 (AMCDRR), set to be held in Bangkok from June 22–26. M.L. Panadda Diskul, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister's Office and Deputy Permanent Secretary for Interior, and Thani Thongpakdee, Thai Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, declared the country's readiness at their joint press cofrenece in Bangkok on Friday. According to the senior Thai officials, the 6th AMCDRR, themed “Promoting Investments for Resilient Nations and Communities”, will be attended by concerned ministers from 63 Asian-Pacific countries, heads of disaster management agencies from 50 countries and other stakeholders in disaster risk reduction in the region. High on the agenda of the forthcoming five-day regional gathering is a discussion on promoting investment in coping with disasters and in quick rehabilitation in a disaster-hit area in order to reduce disaster risks and undesirable impacts.
