GEOSA Highlights Saudi Leadership in Hydrographic Surveying

Riyadh, June 29, 2026, SPA -- The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) organized an event to mark World Hydrography Day 2026 under the theme "Transforming How Ocean Data is Shared." The event brought together representatives from government agencies, academic and research institutions, and specialized companies to promote the integration and exchange of ocean data and support navigational safety and coastal and maritime development.
Speaking at the opening of the event, GEOSA Vice President Eng. Ahmed Alwasaidi underscored the importance of developing ocean data-sharing mechanisms in accordance with approved standards and frameworks. He said such efforts would enhance the reliability of marine information, strengthen coordination among relevant entities, and contribute to the development of an integrated digital maritime ecosystem that supports national development objectives.
The event featured presentations on GEOSA's hydrographic surveying activities, its efforts to develop ocean geospatial data and products, and the geospatial infrastructure that supports navigational safety and coastal development. Participating entities also showcased how marine data is being used to support maritime transport, protect the marine environment, and improve the management of coastal and marine resources.
The event reflects GEOSA's ongoing efforts to advance the hydrographic surveying sector, enhance the integration and reliability of ocean geospatial data, and expand its use in supporting navigational safety, improving port efficiency, protecting the marine environment, and enabling informed decision-making in coastal and maritime sectors.
