Malaysian Agriculture And Food Security Minister Receives Courtesy Call From EU-ABC Executive Director
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu received a courtesy call from EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) executive director Chris Humphrey and his delegation at Wisma Tani here on Thursday.
In a statement Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) announced that the meeting focused on four main issues, namely the implementation of the National Agro-Food Policy 2.0 (DAN 2.0) for food security and the application of agricultural technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Other focuses raised in the meeting were the strengthening of the local dairy supply chain, as well as the strengthening of animal health and biosecurity standards.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security stressed that the European Union (EU) is one of the most important commercial and technological partners for Malaysia in its efforts to transform the country's agri-food system towards a more sustainable, resilient and high-tech one.
"This step is very critical in addressing the challenges of global food security, climate change, and disruptions to the world's supply chain," according to the statement.
KPKM said Mohamad also expressed his hope for EU companies to provide continuous support to Malaysia and ASEAN to develop the capacity building of local farmers and breeders, especially in compliance with quality standards, Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures, exploring new markets and trade facilitation.
“In addition, both parties also expressed their support and commitment in supporting the ongoing Malaysia-European Union Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA) negotiations,” the statement said.
KPKM called for more strategic cooperation to be implemented between EU companies and local companies, especially related to technology in the agricultural sector to modernise the country's agro-food supply chain, thus ensuring the availability of food for all Malaysians.
Mohamad also took the opportunity at this session to invite the EU-ABC delegation to attend the Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 scheduled from August 28 to September 6 at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS), Serdang, Selangor.
