Iran secures historic first gold at global AI olympiad

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s national team has won its first-ever gold medal at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), securing four medals at the 2026 competition in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The third edition of the IOAI was held from August 2 to 7, bringing together more than 400 participants from over 100 countries. Iran’s young AI researchers delivered a strong performance, winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medal.

Shayan Reza-Zadeh claimed the gold medal, while Mohammad-Reza Darvishi and Mohammad-Amin Nazmfar won silver medals. Mani Monjipour secured the team’s bronze medal.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for Iran’s participation in the global AI competition and highlights the capabilities of its young researchers in artificial intelligence.

The team faced challenges during its preparation, including internet disruptions and damage to national AI infrastructure amid recent acts of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime. Despite these difficulties, the young researchers maintained their preparations and achieved a historic result at the international competition.
