Bishkek city plan: Traffic jams, ecology and schools, key problems to be solved

Bishkek, Feb. 4, 2026. /Kabar/. City plan is a long-term strategic document that determines the 25-year development of Bishkek. It reflects the main directions of development of the capital, issues of providing for the population, forming infrastructure and improving the quality of life, Mederbek Kydyrmaev, head of the state institution on Bishkek city plan told Kabar.

According to him, the old City Plan was approved in 2006 and its term expired in December 2025. Currently, the main customer of the new document is the Bishkek Mayor's office, and work is underway to develop an updated Plan.

It was also noted that the St. Petersburg Research Institute is currently developing the Plan. In 2024-2025, administrative-territorial reforms were carried out, as a result of which the territory of Bishkek actually expanded threefold. New villages and settlements were included in the capital.

"Since the start of work on the Plan, a large amount of analytical and research work has been carried out by the research institute. Special sites have been launched by the city and surveys have been organized among residents. In addition, official requests have been sent to ministries, and based on the information received, the main problems of the capital have been identified and the main directions of the Plan have been formed, which will determine the future development of the city," Mederbek Kydyrmaev added.

As he noted, the main tasks of the City Plan are to solve the problem of traffic congestion, improve the environmental situation, eliminate the lack of social facilities, as well as develop transport infrastructure. In other words, the City Plan is a document that creates conditions and provides opportunities for solving the current problems of the city.
