Kyrgyzstani wins gold medal at Asian Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia

Bishkek, Feb. 9, 2026. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan's Igor Filin won a gold medal at the Asian Cycling Championships in Saudi Arabia, the Kyrgyz Cycling Federation reported.

According to the federation, the competition was held on the road in the Masters 60-64 category over a distance of 62.4 km.

This is Kyrgyzstan's first gold medal in a road race since the country's independence. Furthermore, this award marks Kyrgyzstan's fifth gold medal at the Asian Road Cycling Championships.

Yevgeny Vakker won individual race gold for the country at continental championships in 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2012.

"Igor Filin's victory is of particular significance for the development of cycling in Kyrgyzstan." This result confirms the competitiveness of Kyrgyz athletes at the continental level and highlights the high level of training, even in the master's categories. The gold medal in the road race has become a symbol of the sustainable development of domestic cycling and its potential on the international stage," the statement says.
