Thai Navy Finds Newly Laid Landmines on Border

TRAT, Feb 16 (TNA) -  The Royal Thai Navy has discovered six recently deployed d PMN-2 anti-personnel mines in the Ban Chamrak area of Trat province near the Cambodian border, characterizing the find as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

Navy spokesperson RAdm Parach Rattanachaiyapan confirmed that the mines, found during a clearing operation on Saturday, were in pristine condition, indicating they were recently placed rather than being remnants of past conflicts.

Alongside the PMN-2 units, officials recovered three PMN-1 mines and one POMZ mine, asserting that they were recently deployed by opposing forces.

Thailand plans to document the evidence and pursue legal action through international mechanisms to address this breach of mine-ban obligations. - 819 (TNA)
