Kyrgyzstan's mountain development initiatives presented in Korea

Bishkek, Feb. 16, 2026. /Kabar/. Special Representative of the President for the Mountain Agenda Dinara Kemelova visited Korea to promote sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan's mountain regions, promote climate change initiatives, and strengthen international cooperation within the framework of the Global Mountain Agenda.
During the visit, constructive consultations were held with Park Chung-ho, Executive Director of the Asian Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFOCO), Kim Sang-hyeop, Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), as well as representatives of the Green Climate Fund on issues related to promoting projects aimed at developing mountain regions in Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the Five-Year Action Plan for Mountain Regions Development (2023-2027).
Dinara Kemelova also met with Kyun Jeong-ho, Deputy Minister for Climate Change at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and Nam Song-hee, Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Korea Forestry Agency.
Special Representative noted Kyrgyzstan’s achievements in bringing the interlinkages between mountains and climate issues to a new level within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, including plans to hold an international dialogue on mountains and climate change in 2026. Initiatives to establish a Global Center for Mountain Resilience in Bishkek and a Global Program for the Development of Mountain Countries were presented, and Korea was invited to consider the possibility of partnership and joint organization.
The opportunities for implementing joint projects on restoring forest ecosystems, combating natural disasters in mountain regions, land degradation, climate change, branding mountain products, and strengthening the institutional capacity of mountain countries were discussed.
In addition, Dinara Kemelova participated in the round table "Promoting Global and Regional Mountain Dialogue: Towards the Second Global Mountain Summit "2Bishkek +25".
The event was organized jointly with the Secretariat of the Central Asia-Korea Cooperation Forum and was attended by representatives of Korean government agencies and companies, as well as representatives of AFOCO, GGGI, UNESCO and other international organizations. The presentation of the Mountain Agenda was also held at the Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies of Seoul National University.
