Iran–Russia energy cooperation yields ‘tangible results’: Oil minister

Tehran, IRNA – Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad says joint cooperation between Iran and Russia in developing oil and gas fields has produced “completely tangible achievements,” as several projects have already reached the production stage.
Speaking on Wednesday at the 19th Session of the Permanent Iranian–Russian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, attended by Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov, Paknejad described the gathering as “an important opportunity to maximize the capacities of the two countries, especially under sensitive international conditions.”
He said energy issues, particularly in the oil and gas sector, were at the forefront of the agenda.
“Within the framework of four contracts and in the field of development of oil and gas fields, we are jointly implementing the development of seven oil fields with Russian companies, and fortunately some of these projects have led to production, which is considered a valuable achievement,” he said.
Paknejad added that the fact that the projects are already producing demonstrates that investments have resulted in “completely tangible achievements.”
For his part, Tsivilyov said strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has entered a higher level of bilateral interactions.
Referring to the signing of laws related to the removal of preferential currency and the comprehensive strategic memorandum between Iran and Russia in October 2025, he said both countries are fully prepared to hold the 20th session of the commission in Russia at the highest level.
“The laws related to the removal of preferential currency have been signed, and also, on October 2, 2025, the comprehensive strategic memorandum between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was signed by the presidents of the two countries; a memorandum that has brought us into a higher level of bilateral interactions,” the Russian minister added.
