SAUDI-M`SIA MOU ON SECURITY TO ENSURE MORE EFFICIENT COOPERATION
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed
between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia with regard to cooperation on security policy
will ensure a more systematic and efficient cooperation between the two
countries.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said among the scope of cooperation
listed in the MoU were the war against violence, drug smuggling, falsification
of documents, arms smuggling and cyber crime.
"It will be implemented through a technical cooperation and sharing of
intelligence information, expertise, scientific research findings and related
publication," he said in a statement, here Thursday.
He said that the contents of the MoU had been studied at the meeting
involving his ministry, Attorney-General's Chambers, Foreign Ministry, and the
Royal Malaysia Police on Jan 8 and had received the approval of the Cabinet.
Hishammuddin is now in Saudi Arabia accompanying Prime Minister Najib Razak
who is on a four-day working visit to that country, and will represent Malaysia
in signing the MoU.
The statement said that other agencies identified as the implementing
agencies to realise the MoU are the Royal Malaysia Police, Immigration
Department and the National Anti-Drugs Agency.
"Under the MoU, it is hoped that both countries can create an annual meeting
mechanism between the two countries aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the
implementation of the programmes planned," the statement added.
