NEW YORK, June 15 (Itar-Tass) - Ex-Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has been awarded the Medal of Freedom - the highest U.S. civilian award, which is conferred by the Philadelphia-based National Constitution Centre (the Pennsylvania State).

Gorbachev will receive the medal from George Bush the senior, the

In a statement released and circulated on Friday, June 13 the National Constitutional Centre said that the medal would be awarded to Mikhail Gorbachev for his bold approach to ending the dangerous and decades long "Cold War" and also for giving hope and freedom to millions of people who had lived behind the Iron Curtain.
