Foreign minister to attend 4th FEALAC in Japan

(KPL) Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will lead a high-ranking delegation of Laos to attend the 4th Foreign Ministerial Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), which will be held on 16-17 January in Tokyo, Japan.
The visit to Japan is at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan H.E Katsuya Okada.
The 4th FEALAC is aimed at discussing the results of the FEALAC framework implementation since its previous meeting in 2007, to discuss its future plan and to celebrate its 10th founding anniversary (1999-2009). During the meeting, Mongolia will be welcomed as the new member of FEALAC and a number of challenges will be discussed, especially the topics on environment, sustainable development, financial crisis, world economy, terrorism, climate change and the issue on social affairs and culture.
Besides, this meeting will provide a good opportunity for Laos to raise its role on the international stage. Specially, the participation will contribute to promoting the friendly relation and co-operation between Laos and Japan, particularly to contribute to the celebration of the 55th founding anniversary of the diplomatic relation between Laos and Japan.
FEALAC comprises 33 member states, including 15 from Asia and 18 from American continent. The FEALAC will be held every two years on a rotary basis between the two continents.
The co-operation framework concentrates on three main areas: politics, culture-education-science-technology, and socio-economic area.
