MOSCOW, January 15 (Itar-Tass) - Russia stresses importance of
denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Foreign Ministry spokesman
Andrei Nesterenko said on Friday.

"We firmly consider important the denuclearization of the Korean
Peninsula. We proceed from the assumption that it is necessary to achieve
these goals on a political and diplomatic plane," he said.
Moscow "calls for soonest resumption of the six-party talks (China,
Russia, the U.S., two Koreas and Japan) with the International Atomic
Energy Agency joining this process to provide consultations and other
services and for further dialogue to strengthen confidence-building
measures on the Korean Peninsula and South-East Asia in general,"
Nesterenko said.
"Our country is directly interested in stabilization in the region,"
he said.
