Art shows no longer need license from Iran's Culture Ministry
TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) -- Gallery owners no longer need to apply for an exhibiting license to hold shows in their galleries, said Ali Tan, director of the Galleries Office affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance here on Friday.
Based on regulations which have not been practiced in recent years, owners have to get a license for each exhibit opening in their galleries. The permit is issued by the Galleries Office of the ministry.
“We intend to support gallery owners. We consider them as representatives of the culture ministry. We are certain that they are familiar with the rules and regulations of the country and they can be the best advisors for artists,” Ali Tan explained.
“Therefore, we decided not to intrude into their activities since we trust gallery owners. Of course, they are encouraged to consult us if they have doubts concerning specific types of artworks,” he remarked.
Tan also noted that the office has allocated loans for reconstruction of galleries. “I have also proposed dedicating an annual budget to purchase visual artworks from galleries. The proposal is currently being examined,” he stated.
“There are over 300 art galleries in the country out of which some are inactive or work only temporarily. In Tehran, there are about 70 active galleries,” he concluded.
