Zaragoza, Spain, June 15 WAM) - The Pavilion of the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) at Zaragoza International Expo (Expo Zaragoza 2008) was
inaugurated here yesterday by H.E. Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Media Council (NMC).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a host of officials from Arab and other countries, members of the UAE delegation to the international event, UAE Ambassador to Spain Sultan Mohammed Al Kortasi and Deputy Chairman of NMC Salim Saeed Al Ameri who is also Deputy Commissioner of the UAE Pavilion.

Earlier, Ghobash attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition which was graced by King Juan Carlos in addition to several heads of state.

In a statement to WAM shortly after the inauguration ceremony, Ghobash said: "The UAE under the leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan is strongly committed to the theme of sustainable development. We will also continue to promote cultural and economic diversity and ensure greater openness to the rest of the world".

The UAE participation at Zaragoza 2008, he said, underscores its keenness to bolster relations with different countries of the world.

After cutting the ribbon, Ghobash toured various sections of the pavilion which spans 580 square metres. The UAE, which participates in the global water event along with 96 countries, is using the opportunity to further strengthen its credibility as a leader in the field of water and sustainable development. The pavilion reveals some of the innovative solutions to the age old problem of supplying sufficient water to meet the demands of a burgeoning population and massive urban, economic and industrial expansions.

The pavilion provides an insight into the UAE tireless innovative efforts and experiences to secure water supplies since 2000 years ago up to the present time.

Eight documentaries showcasing the county's pilot projects and rich
experience on conservation, management and development of water supplies were produced by NMC and made by famous freelance wildlife filmmaker and documentary cameraman Doug Allan over 8 months using the latest underwater and topside shooting technologies will be played on a giant screens in the UAE pavilion.

"The said documentaries are true demonstration of the UAE leadership efforts to provide fresh sources of water to continue the process of development initiated by the UAE founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as well as to further build on the forefathers' success in facing survival challenges," said Minister of Labour and NMC Chairman Saqr Ghobash.

"The 8 creative works aim to further promote the UAE's tourism, media and culture and come as part of a creatively formulated long-term campaign targeting the huge number of audience expected at the global event", he noted.

(NMC) has also produced new posters, featuring UAE civilisation, which will be showcased to millions of visitors at the International event which organizers expect to attract around 8 million visitors.
