HARBIN FAIR SHOWS CHINA'S INTEREST IN COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA
HARBIN, June 15 (Itar-Tass) - The Harbin trade and economic fair shows China's stable interest in cooperation with various Russian regions.
This major annual economic forum, staged since 1990, was officially opened here on Saturday, but the main events will be held on June 15-19, Itar-Tass learnt from staff member of the Russian trade mission to China Syumer Palkin.
According to the mission staffer, work of the fair shows that the
Chinese side continues to display interest in traditional areas of
cooperation with Russia: raw materials, chemical goods and the forest
industry.
At the same time, commenting on earlier information, circulated
earlier by fair organisers, that the fair will step up this year
presentation of Russian engineering and electronic goods, he emphasised that "the Russian trade mission to China also takes efforts to boost the share of Russian engineering goods in Russian export to China".
Fair participants point to a positive element in the fair's work over the past few years that Chinese businessmen considerably increased the number of specific proposals on cooperation. The fair's business programme, apart from traditional presentation of the economic potential of some Russian regions, also provides for calling a special Russian-Chinese symposium on cooperation in labour resources.
Besides the above, Russian special economic zones will be presented, which was not the case in the previous years of its operation. Organisers plan on June 16 to hold Day of Russia which is an important part of this economic forum, aimed mostly at looking for ways of boosting bilateral trade and economic partnership.
Russia's participation in the fair was the most noticeable, impressive and fruitful event in the entire history of staging this largest economic Chinese forum, aimed at South East Asian countries, the CIS and Eastern Europe. According to a catalogue, given to reporters, around 100 Russian companies registered their participation in the Russian pavilion this year.
The layout of the exhibition space also indicates that the fair is
really oriented mostly on Russia. On entering the fair building along the strip of red carpet, visitors get into the Russian pavilion right away.
The fair is co-sponsored by the Chinese Trade Ministry, the
All-Chinese Committee promoting international trade and the government of the Heilongjiang province. Starting from 2007, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization became a partner of this economic forum.
