Justice Ministry sums up 2009 results
Astana, January 17 2009, Khabar - A session on summing up the results of activity and plans for 2010 involving the Prime Minister has been held at the Ministry of Justice. Last year, the justice ministry worked on improving Public Service Centers’ operation. The administration over public service centers was handed over to local executive bodies. The ministry is currently working on introducing the so-called “one application principle”.
Rashid Tusupbekov, Minister of Justice of RK:
- The essence of this offer lies in the fact that people won’t have to submit copies of a whole lot of documents to obtain state services. All the data is stored in the database and there is no sense in requesting additional information from people. Working on the one application principle will simplify the procedure of obtaining state services and remove all unnecessary costs.
The organization of legal assistance and the development of valuation activities are said to be yet another important directions of work. The number of prisoners remains to be the most topical issue for the justice ministry.
Rashid Tusupbekov, Minister of Justice of RK:
- We think that it’s reasonable to hold an amnesty in 2010. It will result in a social effect and will allow for cutting budgetary expenses for keeping convicts and resolving the issue of overcrowded correctional facilities.
At present, almost 64 thousand convicted and arrested offenders are being kept at special facilities in the country. Their number has increased by 5 thousand people over the last year alone. The majority of colonies are unsafe since they were built 60-70 years ago.
Karim Massimov set new tasks for this year as paying careful attention to agreements on customs union and bringing all the bodies’ work to the OSCE standards. Karim Massimov also showed support to the justice ministry’s initiative on the creation of a special linguistic center which will contribute to the improvement of quality of laws developed in Kazakh.
