ULAANBAATAR DECLARES WAR AGAINST TOBACCO



Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ Entities and shops are going to get a special license for trading tobacco products according to a decision of the Citizens' Representative Meeting of Ulaanbaatar city.
The Law Department of the Ulaanbaatar Governor's Office and ADRA Mongolia NGO's Health Education Against Tobacco Project have signed a cooperation agreement to combat tobacco usage among population especially young people. As a part of works of this cooperation, the City Council has released a regulation on trading cigarettes and putting over control on it. Accordingly, entities and shops will receive a special license for selling tobacco products.
According to National Statistics Commission, domestic tobacco production was 1.5 million pieces in 2007, but this number increased to 1.8 million in 2008. Meanwhile, tobacco import stood at 1.4 million pieces in 2007, and rose to 1.6 million in 2008.
