AUTHORITIES IN ABYAN RELEASE 24 PRISONERS
Authorities in Abyan release 24 prisoners
ABYAN, June 15 (Saba) - The security and judicial authorities in
Abyan on Sunday released 24 prisoners from the Central Prison in
Zinjubar city of Abyan province, south of Yemen.
The released prisoners have served two thirds of their terms in jail
and shown good conduct, the authorities said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Human Rights, Huda al-Ban, and Minister of
Water and Environment, Abdul-Rahman al-Iryani, on Sunday met with
the governor of Abyan Ahmad al-Maisari and leadership and members of
local authority and discussed the situation of prisoners in the
province and means of improving services being presented in prisons
as re-rehabilitation facilities.
Al-Ban praised the release of prisoners and stressed the need to
empower laws of human rights and circulating awareness of human
rights concepts, justice and goodness and fighting all forms of
violence and crimes. "Intensifying education in remote poor areas
and combating poverty-related issues will help the country
circumvent crimes", said al-Ban, pointing that Yemen signed 58
international conventions of human rights.
Governor al-Maisari admitted prisoners in Abyan are old and need
rehabilitation, confirming that the leadership in Abyan will
collaborate with the Ministry of Human Rights to deepen human rights
concepts in the society.
The ministers and al-Maisari visited the prisons of Zinjubar and
Jia'ar. Al-Ban distributed YR 1 million for 17 prisoners.
