DUSHANBE, January 18 (Itar-Tass) - Dushanbe positively assesses the
level of bilateral Tajik-Russian cooperation, Tajik Foreign Minister
Hamrokhon Zarifi told a press conference on Monday, the first one in the
new year.
"The level of our relations is in keeping with the spirit of strategic
partnership between Tajikistan and Russia in every trend of political,
economic, military, technical and humanitarian cooperation," the minister
said. He said, "Gazprom operates actively in Tajikistan, being engaged in
seismic and geological survey of a number of oil-and-gas deposits in the
framework of the agreements on Russia's participation in the construction
of three medium capacity hydro power plants on Tajikistan's internal
rivers."
Zarifi described as effective examples of strategic partnership the
construction of Sangtuda hydro power plant -1 and the opening in Dushanbe
of a number of branches of prestigious Russian higher educational
establishments, above all Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The minister has also stressed that Tajikistan and Russia have
"uniform or similar positions" on many foreign policy questions.
At the same time the minister stressed that "Tajikistan, in its
foreign policy activity, "adheres to multi-vector policy, aiming to expand
and strengthen multi-faceted cooperation with foreign states, which meets
the country's interests."
