Snowfall and frost in Kazakhstan
Almaty, January 19, 2010 (Khabar) - Classes in schools were cancelled, power lines are out of service and trafficing is limited in several districts of Kazakhstan because of heavy snowfall, strong winds and ice covered ground. Meanwhile, the Epiphany frosts come with full force. In East Kazakhstani, Pavlodar, Akmola and North Kazakhstani regions the temperature is 30 degree below zero. Forecasters predict drop of temperature to minus 40 degrees.
In the Pavlodar region, lessons are cancelled at schools for the fifth time. Aall exits from the settlements are closed temporarily. Patrolling is increased on the roads of national and regional significance, and this is more than 4 thousand kilometers. Since early January the regime of restriction on the trafficking was introduced for 9 times in the region. During this time, 6 cars were evacuated from snowdrifts and 20 people were rescued. Last weekend passed without serious emergency.
Sagadat Smagulov, deputy head trafficking service in Pavlodar region:
- We form groups and open trafficking over short distances. And we instruct them saying not to leave each other on the road. If some situation arises, they should help each other, and we give them telephones. Cellular communication operates everywhere now. They reported us and emergency services in the case of any situation.
In the Karaganda region trafficking was limited in all directions for two days. Particular attention is paid to the cars with the engine on diesel fuel. Kadir with his partner stay for two days near the campsite next to Temirtau because diesel oil froze in the tank from severe frosts and engine failed.
Although trafficking in all directions was resumed in the evening the traffic police and the emergency service do not exclude the route will once again be cut off. The weather forecasters predict decrease in temperature to minus 30 at night in the region. Epiphany frosts will be very severe in the East Kazakhstan. According to forecasters, it is -37 on January 19 and -45 in some districts. Te lowest temperature in this region was registered in 1931. Then the thermometer dropped to -54 degrees.
In Almaty subzero temperatures will last for several days. On Sunday there was a thick fog that had hindered the movement, it was raining and then rain turned into snow. The coldest Epiphany in the city was in 1900, when meteorologists recorded 26 degrees below zero. This year, forecasters predict that the cold will depart by the end of the week.
In East Kazakhstan traffic in all directions for all modes of transport was closed again. On Sunday 30 cars and 2 buses were snowed. Fortunately, the rescuers arrived in time and rescued 145 people from snow captivity. Authorities of Eastern Kazakhstan authorities strongly recommend people not to travel outside the area because of unfavorable weather conditions.
