Astana, January 19, 2010 (Khabar) - At a meeting in parliament, the minister of labour and social security announced that according to the results of 200. Unemployment levels have decreased to 6.3% and the government is going to continue the implementation of the Road Map programme which is considered to be one of the most successful anti-crisis measures.

Gulshara Abdikalykova, Minister for Labour and Social Security of RK:
- In order to stabilize the labour market, provide for regional employment and retrain the staff, both the regional and local budget have allocated over 1 billion US dollars and the government has developed the Road map programme. As part of this programme, Kazakhstan has witnessed the implementation of 5260 projects, the creation of 258 thousand jobs and employment and retraining for over 40 thousand people.

As a result of this, the country has been able to decrease the level of unemployment. Gulshara Adbikalykova said that the result of this programme speaks for itself. In 2009, the president asked for an increase in the amount of pensions and benefits. As a result, 4 million people are now receiving annual payments from the budget.

Gulshara Abdikalykova, Minister for Labour and Social Security of RK:
- In 2008 we had about 500 billion tenge. Last year we received 812 billion tenge for the social area and this year this sum has reached 922 billion tenge.

In 2010 the ministry of labour is to focus on the development and introduction of the national living standard and such issues as employment of the population and regulation of labour relations which will remain a high priority. Members of Parliament also paid attention to a number of other acute issues.

Mukhtar Tinikeyev, Member of Kazakhstan Parliament:
- When we were in Karaganda, we were talking to people who had lost their capacity for being employed during Soviet times. We promised them that soon the commission will start working. 3 months have passed since then and the commission has not been formed yet.

The minister said that the problem is in the detail. Some regions of the country cannot present precise lists of people, who lost their ability to be employed in Soviet times. So, as soon as the information is presented, the ministry will be ready to send the document about social benefits to the budget commission. Specialists are also working on the improvement of the minimum wage. It is planned to use the method, adopted in the majority of European countries.
