Extremism Iran's most serious problem: Rafsanjani

TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) -- Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has said that extremism is the most serious problem the country is facing.

"Extremism is the country’s most important problem, and those who are concerned about Islam, the revolution, and the system should find a solution,” Rafsanjani said during a meeting with a number of university instructors in Tehran on Tuesday.

Moderation is needed in the economy and domestic and foreign policy, he observed.

A glance at Islamic thought, the Holy Koran, and the Seerah (lifestyle and manner) of Prophet Muhammad (S) will show the significance of moderation in thought and actions, he noted.

But it will not be possible to solve the country’s problems until extremists from both camps halt their extreme actions, he added.

The problems can be solved if the people heed Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s recent remarks about the rule of law, he stated.

He also said holding logical television debates instead of street clashes can pave the way for efforts to solve the problems.
