Frosts in Kazakhstan

Almaty, January 20, 2009, Khabar - According to the report by the Almaty regional department of emergency situations, 5 rescue operations have been conducted on the roads in the region over the last 3 days alone. 48 people and 24 motor cars were evacuated from snowdrifts on the motor roads. On Tuesday, three missing residents of Usharal were found. They had to hide in the deserted shed because their petrol was over. They received necessary aid. The roads are cleaned in the region from snowdrifts.

Dauren Danayev, chief, Almaty regional department of emergency situations:
- Road cleaning works are currently being carried out on Kegen, Malaisary, Altyn Yemel and Arkharly mountain crossing. There are road maintenance departments at every crossing with one grader, a bulldozer and snow ploughs being in instant readiness.

The Korday mountain crossing was closed in the Zhambyl region where a snowstorm and frost hampered 30 heavy-duty vehicles in continuing their journey.

Eldor Raimbekov, acting head of the press service of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan:
- At the moment, in those areas where the situation on the roads is difficult, work is carried out in emergency mode and rescuers are ready to assist people. Ministry of Emergency Situations will involve helicopters, which are based in Almaty and Atyrau region to rescue of people in precisely those places where vehicles can’t travel down a high snowdrfits
