Telethon to give Hope for Haiti Now

NEW YORK, January 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Over 40 celebrities will join Hope
for Haiti telethon on Friday and the raised funds will be donated to
several relief organizations, including UNICEF, to help the
earthquake-ravaged Caribbean nation.
Actor George Clooney will donate $1 million and will anchor the show
from Los Angeles.
Clooney, who organized the event and who will officially make his
donation during the telecast, said it took him "three days straight trying
to put it together."
Beyonce and Madonna joined "Hope for Haiti Now". Beyonce will perform
in London and Madonna will take the stage in New York.
Rihanna said she will perform a new song called with rapper
Jay-Z and U2's The Edge and Bono at the telethon in London.
Other notables taking part include former U.S. President Bill Clinton,
U2 frontman Bono, singer Bruce Springsteen, and actors Denzel Washington,
Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.
MTV, the show's co-producer, said "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global
Benefit for Earthquake Relief" will be the most widely distributed
telethon in history.
