Over 1400 planes queue to bring aid to Haiti.

WASHINGTON, January 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Over 1,400 planes are queuing to
bring aid to Haiti, Commander of U.S. Southern Command General Douglas
Fraser told reporters on Thursday, adding an alternate airport was opened
to speed up the arrival of relief for earthquake victims.
About 120 to 140 flights a day are now able to land at the airport in
Port-au-Prince, he said by video conference from Haiti.
Since Wednesday some aid flights have been landing at a small airport
in Jacmel, 48 kilometers southeast of the Haitian capital. C-130
airlifters arrive there. Besides, the San Isidro airport in neighboring
Santo Domingo is being used and now an alternate airport has been opened
at Barahona, a closer location over the border in the Dominican Republic.
Fraser said the U.S. military had already delivered 1.4 million
bottles of water to Haiti, 700 thousand food rations, and some ten tons of
medicines.
Despite isolated incidents of looting, violence and other criminal
activity, the overall security situation remains calm, Fraser said.
