Northern fleet to get overhauled nuclear sub back Friday.

ARKHANGELSK, January 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia's Northern Fleet will
get its nuclear submarine K-18 Karelia of the Project 667BDRM class back
on Friday after a major 5-year overhaul that will extend the service life
of the vessel for another ten years.
The act of acceptance will be signed today, the press service of the
Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk said.
It said Karelia had successfully completed sea trials in December and
in January sailed to its Arctic home port of call.
Karelia, at which President Vladimir Putin spent a night in April 2000
when the sub was at a depth of 50 meters in the Barents Sea, will join
four submarines of the Project 667BDRM class that have completed overhaul
already - K-51 Verkhoturie, K-84 Yekaterinburg, K-114 Tula, and K-117
Bryansk. The next submarine in line for an overhaul is K-407 Novomoskovsk.
Karelia was built and commissioned in 1989. It is 167 meters long and
12 meters wide and has a displacement of 12 thousand tons. The maximum
submergence depth is 400 meters and the cruising underwater speed is up to
24 knots. The crew comprises 140 men. The submarine is armed with 16
intercontinental ballistic missiles.
