Youth incarceration rate 7% in Iran
TEHRAN, Jan 23 (MNA) – Between 6 and 7 percent of released juvenile prisoners are incarcerated again in cells, Head of Juvenile Rehabilitation Center said here on Saturday.
There have been no changes in the youth overall recidivism rate in 1388 (began march 21, 2009) compared to the last year, Lotfollah Mohseni said.
According the center’s officials, drug-related crimes, robberies, assault and battery are the main charges Iranian young adults are arrested on.
And most of the young culprits are from families with criminal records.
Girls’ recidivism rate is much lower than boys, Mohseni said, adding that the minimum age of committing crime is 12 in Iran.
