FAR EAST FED UNIVERSITY TO BE SET UP ON RUSSKY ISLE

VLADIVOSTOK, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - Prospects for the founding of a Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will be taken into consideration in the designing of facilities for the 2012 summit of APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) forum here. This decision was taken at a session of the Far Eastern Directorate of the RosStroj (Federal Agency for Construction of Housing and Communal Services).

It is expected that the new educational center will be located on
Russky (Russian) Island, where a high-capacity modern infrastructure will be created by 2012, an official at the press center of the Primorsky (maritime) Territory administration has told Itar-Tass.

The FEFU is to be brought into being on the basis of the Far Eastern State University. The Territorial administration experts are of the opinion that the establishment of a new educational center in the country's east will contribute to raising the quality of professional training of specialists and to integration into the educational and socio-cultural world environment, primarily that in the Asia-Pacific Region.

A business center, an entertainment zone, tourist-and-recreational, social-and-business, and communal zones, as well as a zone of the Russian Ministry of Defence are to appear on Russky Island, which is located one kilometre away from downtown Vladivostok.

The business center of the APEC summit will include a congress hall seating 7,000, which will also have a retreat house -- the meeting place of the Heads of State. The island will be provided with new power and water supply systems. It will be possible to get to the Russky Island via a bridge, which will become part of the city's new transport network.
