DPRK to rebuff any Seoul attempt at encroaching on its sovereignty

PYONGYANG, January 24 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea will respond "with
quick and resolute military actions" if South Korea tries "to encroach on
the sovereignty" of the people's republic, says a statement by the General
Staff of the Korean People's Army (KPA), circulated on Sunday by the KCNA
news agency.
The General Staff emphasised that "resolute military actions" of the
North will include "strikes on the main projects (in South), including the
commanding centre".
The present General Staff's statement was Pyongyang's reply to a
pronouncement by South Korean National Defence Minister Kim Tae-young
(made on January 20) who called for a preventive strike on North Korea in
case of its preparations for a nuclear attack on the South.
Pyongyang underlined on Sunday that it regards such comments by the
South Korean military leadership as "a declaration of war" on North Korea.
"We invariably seek to improve inter-Korean relations, but at the same
time, we cannot disregard actions by South Korean puppets, aimed at
aggravating confrontation with the DPRK," runs the statement by the
General Staff.
