Japan interested to enhance economic ties with Iran

BANDAR ABBAS, Jan. 24 (MNA) -- The Japanese ambassador to Tehran said that his country will make effort to pave the way for the expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

During a meeting with the director of Hormozgan Province's Ports and Maritime Organization, Akio Shirota said that Shahid Rajaii port in Bandar Abbas (capital city of Hormozgan) is an important seaport not only for Iran, but also for the whole region.

He said that effort will be made to highlight the importance and the advantages of investing in Iran's Bandar Abbas economic zones for Japanese businesses, the Mehr news agency reported on Sunday.

The director of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Organization described Bandar Abbas as Iran's commercial hub, and stated that Shahid Rajaii port showed an increase in operations in 2009 despite the global economic meltdown.

Mohammad-Reza Ashkriz said the port is run by both the public sector and private sector, expressing hope that it will soon transport 25 percent of its loads entering the seaport by railway.

He pointed out that Rajaii Port is an important location in the North-South corridor, and added that the rapid movement of goods and high security has led Iran to be the best place for the transit of shipments.
