.Transport ship carries fuel for ice-nipped refrigerator.
VLADIVOSTOK, January 26 (Itar-Tass) - The refrigerating transport ship
Smolninsky is ice-nipped in the Sea of Okhotsk and is drifting southward.
Weather in the distress area has sharply deteriorated and a strong wind
began to blow.
The ice-nipped ship has an 18-degree list to port. The above-water
part of the ship is iced up and constitutes an ice slab. The crew are busy
chipping ice off. In order to get out of the ice field, the ship needs to
diminish list to at least ten degrees. Meanwhile the crew have managed to
reduce the list by one degree over the past 24 hours, an official at the
sea rescue coordinating subcenter Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk reported on Tuesday.
At a distance of two cable lengths (370.4 metres) from the Smolninsky,
there is the sea-going rescue boat Spravedlivy that ensures the safety of
the refrigerating transport ship crew. The transport ship Amursky liman
set out from Vladivostok on Tuesday, carrying fuel to the stricken ship.
