Foreign artists express views on Iranian Theater Market

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) -- Foreign stage directors participating in the 28th Fajr International Theater Festival expressed their opinions on the first Iranian Theater Market.
Swiss stage director Niklaus Helbling told the Iran Theater website that he appreciated the gathering of innovative artists in a place where they could exchange their ideas which should lead to good results.
Stephan Weiland who staged “The Last Seemorgh” at the festival said that he was fascinated by the concurrent holding of the festival with the market.
He went on to say that he had he had attended several theater markets previously but they were all independent events. He said that this kind of concurrent event is more influential.
Brian Daly, a Canadian member of the jury, said that the market’s diversity is the main feature of the event.
The market allows visitors to get acquainted with different views on theater in one place and gives foreigners the opportunity to know more about Persian culture, he said.
He went on to say that such markets help Iranians find their place in global theater.
Roger McCann, who will hold one-day educational workshop on “Theatrical Marketing” during the festival, said that theater markets all over the world are experimenting with new methods of marketing and Iran is no exception.
He commented that at present, theater troupes invite guests regardless of their interests, which is not professional.
German children’s director Peer Damminger said that the market is an opportunity for exchanging information and ideas among participants.
The Iranian Theater Market is currently underway on second floor of the Vahdat Hall and will run until January 28.
