JAKARTA READY TO FACE MASSIVE RALLIES

Jakarta, Jan 27 (ANTARA) - The Jakarta regional government said it was ready to face massive rallies to be held in Jakarta to mark the first 100 days in office of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday.

The Jakarta administration held a leadership meeting with the Jakarta Police and other relevant agencies at City Hall on Wednesday to arrange and coordinate efforts to guarantee security in the face of the massive rallies.

"We are preparing the necessary steps to guarantee security during the rallies. All people have the right to express their opinions," Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said after the meeting.

To maintain public order and security, the Jakarta Police will mobilize 9,400 personnel while the Jakarta regional government will deploy 4,000 civilian public order and security guards in certain places, such as at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, the presidential palace, the vice presidential palace, the Constitutional Court building, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office and the parliament building.

The rallies will be staged by students, activists, and other demostrators coming from at least 114 elements of the people. About 30 thousand demonstrators are expected to take part in Thursday's rallies.

They will demonstrate to express their opinions about the performance of President Yudhoyono's government in its first 100 days in office.***
